Privacy Policy for AuthGuard Free

Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 2025

1. Summary

AuthGuard Free does not collect, store, or transmit any user data. Period.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • No personal information
  • No email addresses or names
  • No browsing history
  • No usage analytics
  • No cookies or tracking
  • No IP addresses

3. How the Extension Works

AuthGuard Free blocks websites entirely on your local device. The list of blocked sites is bundled within the extension itself.

  • No internet connection is required for blocking to work
  • No data is ever sent to any server
  • All blocking happens locally using Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API

4. Local Storage

The extension stores only one piece of data locally on your device: the count of blocked domains (a single number). This is used to display "X sites blocked" in the popup. This number never leaves your device.

5. Chrome Permissions & Scopes

AuthGuard Free requests the following Chrome permissions:

declarativeNetRequest

Used to block websites. This is Chrome's privacy-preserving API that blocks network requests without accessing page content. The extension cannot read any data from the pages you visit.

storage

Stores the blocked domain count locally on your device. This data is never synced to any server and never leaves your browser.

host_permissions: <all_urls>

Required by Chrome to apply blocking rules to all websites. Despite this broad permission, the extension only uses it for blocking - it cannot read or modify page content.

6. Third Parties

We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data.

7. Children's Privacy

AuthGuard Free is designed for use in schools and by families. We do not collect any data from anyone, including children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page. But since we don't collect data, there's not much to change.

9. Blocked Sites List

AuthGuard Free blocks the following 83 sites across 3 categories. These lists are static and bundled with the extension.
